Voelkel – Germany’s top organic fruit juice
Voelkel is considered the number 1 organic juice brand in Germany. Inspired by the dream of a free life in the countryside with a portable juice press in the 1920s, Voelkel was born. What contributed to the success of that name?
The story of Voelkel
In the 1920s, Karl and Margret Voelkel became pioneers in the spirit of Wandervogel, a German youth movement founded in 1896 that stood for shedding social constraints and returning to nature and freedom. Karl and Margret arrive in Höhbeck, a sparsely populated mountainous area on the Elbe River in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Initially, they planted apple, pear, cherry, strawberry, grape and gooseberry trees in their gardens and grew them according to anthropocentric principles. In this way, the idea of bioenergy production became a cornerstone of Voelkel’s philosophy 80 years ago, and it has been a central motif of the family business ever since.
A bio-dynamic business development:
After Karl and Margret Voelkel traveled for several years with a mobile juicer – Mostmax – from village to village, turning local people’s fruit into delicious juice. They decided to establish a cider mill in 1936 on a nearby closed dairy farm.
From the mid-1940s – in the second generation the company was managed by Harm Voelkel. He continued the original juice production idea and processed fresh fruit into delicious, natural juices.
The company has seen its breakthrough as a leading juice producer since its third generation, under the direction of Stefan Voelkel. Since the early 1980s, he has headed the family business, developing new products for new markets. Together with his four sons, he currently offers more than 170 different organic products.
Voelkel product quality makes the difference
Demeter is the top standard that Voelkel always adheres to. Because Demeter farming is rigorous, it creates sustainability and the highest quality for Voelkel’s organic products. At Voelkel, cyclical management, in harmony with people and nature, is considered the most sustainable farming method.
Voelkel strictly controls the production process, with certification from external laboratories ensuring the highest product quality. Inspection takes place continuously throughout the production process. Particularly, raw materials are controlled, analyzed sensory and studied in detail. From determining the amount of sugar and acidity to testing for pesticide residues, everything is fully carried out.
Voelkel’s core values: Responsibility to people and nature
